# Access Management Terms
- __Data Source__ - Data container, such as database or file system, that can be scanned.
- __Scan__ - Analysis of sample data that is read from one or more data sources.
- __Metadata__ - Data about scanned data source content, that informs system users.
- __Data Scope__ - Named collection of data sources.
- __Root__ – Data scope that, by definition, includes all data sources.
- __Role__ - Named set of permissions to product functions, features, and data scopes.
- __User__ - Person who performs work, who inherits permissions from granted roles.
