Provision AWS Polly Service via the Service Broker. Bind the Service to the Application. Amazon Polly is a service that turns text into lifelike speech, allowing you to create applications that talk, and build entirely new categories of speech-enabled products. Amazon Polly is a Text-to-Speech service that uses advanced deep learning technologies to synthesize speech that sounds like a human voice. https://aws.amazon.com/polly/ [https://aws.amazon.com/polly/] Step 1:: Login to apps manager using the cf CLI ---- cf login -a https://api.sys.pcf.cloudfoundry.awsworkshop.io -u Student --skip-ssl-validation (Password = Passw0rd) ---- Step 2:: Create a Space using the cf cli: ---- cf create-space polly ---- Step 3:: Login to new space: ---- cf target -s polly ---- Step 4:: View AWS Service Broker Services: ---- cf marketplace ---- Step 5:: Deploy the AWS Polly Service via the AWS Service Broker: ---- cf create-service polly default Student-polly ---- This will take some time to provision, while that is taking place we can deploy a nodejs based application to consume the AWS service. Step 6:: Deploy Polly sample application on PCF. ---- cd ~/environment/PCF-on-AWS/modules/40-Deploying-Service-Broker-Polly cf push ---- Connecting to the URL of the pushed Application will fail, the application is told to connect to AWS S3 but at this stage there is no binding between the S3 service we have created and the Application. Step 7:: Create Binding between the application and the Service Broker Service: ---- cf bind-service polly-sample Student-polly ---- Step 8:: restart application ---- cf restage polly-sample ---- Step 9:: Test the application URL again image::DeployPollyService720.gif[Deploy polly] You should now see a black screen with a audio play option. It is important to note that at no point did the developer have to wait for a cloud or ops team to deploy the AWS service and provide connection details such as endpoint, or credentials. At no point was the deleveloper required to leave the developer interface and switch context to an AWS web console. No indepth understanding of the service was required.
